Has a rare inscription, from the author to his Mother. - A.W. Howlett, born 1880, joined the Indian Medical Service 1907 and exchanged into Royal Army Medical Corps 1913 and was appointed Major 1919. - Many Camps: This little book contains twenty-six sketches of Indian life, which have previously been published in the Manchester Guardian. In his introduction, the author hopes that his sketches may help intending visitors to India to gain some insight into Indian customs and thought. Captain Howlett is evidently in sympathy with his subject and has the happy knack of making his descriptions most interesting. We hope that young officers proceeding to India for the first time will read the book, not only for the pleasure which it is sure to afford them, but also that their minds may be attuned to the new surroundings in which the next few years of their life must be passed. Card front and rear and cloth spine and partial cloth to the front and rear also; the navy blue part]. Sturdy little book. It has stood the test of time. Published in 1912, it is 113 years old. Light scuffing to corners and the edges in general. I have shown this in the accompanying images. Light soiling in general, but overall, a fairly good condition. - Apart from the inscription to the front inner board,[which is amazing in itself], the book is in a great condition. All 204 pages are present and tightly bound. There is a fair amount of foxing throughout and occasional soiling but the majority is super clean.
