An original BEAUTIFUL 1871 hand-colored street map of Portland, Maine and its surrounding islands. This map features property owner names on the islands as well as the neighboring towns of Cape Elizabeth and Deering. Iconic landmarks, such as Long Island, Peaks Island, Great Hog Island, Grotch Island are depicted, as are the lines of the long-defunct Portland $ Kennebec, Portland and Ogdenburgh, and Grand Trunk Railroads. This map is from the 1871 F.W. Beers Atlas of Cumberland County, Maine and depicts a Portland very much different than today, and was published long before development of the city's East End. Mild edge wear with some tanning and light sporadic foxing. This map features beige matting around the image. Perfect for framing and display, this map measures 23 1/2 " X 15 1/2". #IS-0010.
