Published in the year of the author's death, this book considers the Jewish people and their position in the world as World War II gets under way. A chapter on the Polish/Warsaw Ghetto offers a rather different analysis of their situation than that now accepted as historical fact. The Holocaust was starting around this time, but it would be another 5 years before the true level of annihilation was known. The book is looking for a supportive role for Jews in the world, and hoping for the establishment of a Jewish state. According to Israeli historian Benny Morris, documents show that Jabotinsky favoured the idea of the transfer of Arab populations out of the proposed state if required for its establishment, though his other writings state, "we do not want to eject even one Arab from either the left or the right bank of the Jordan River. We want them to prosper both economically and culturally. We envision the regime of Jewish Palestine [Eretz Israel ha-Ivri, or the 'Jewish Land of Israel'] as follows: most of the population will be Jewish, but equal rights for all Arab citizens will not only be guaranteed, they will also be fulfilled."Ze'ev Jabotinsky MBE (1880-1940) was a Russian-born author, poet, orator, soldier, and founder of the Revisionist Zionist movement and the Jewish Self-Defense Organisation in Odessa. With Joseph Trumpeldor, he co-founded the Jewish Legion of the British Army in World War I. Later he established several Jewish organizations, including the paramilitary group Betar in Latvia, the youth movement Hatzohar and the militant organization Irgun in Mandatory Palestine. Our book is a first edition copy, in very nice condition overall, though the thin paper cover is grubby and torn at the front. Title etc printed in blue or red lettering. Binding is firm with no loose pages, and all pages are clean and bright. This is a rare volume, most copies being held in libraries, or having been digitised.
