[4 publisher's ads], 195pp; [3], 6-192pp, uniformly bound in half blue cloth and paper over boards, paper spine labels intact [with edge chips and a scrape on the label of Vol. II], lower edge paper label with numbers [from a private collection?]. Previous ownership 1) "Carl M. Garland" inside the front cover of both volumes. Possibly the Rev. Carl M. Garland, a Methodist church Pastor in the Biddeford and Portland, Maine areas. 2) "E. N. Lord, H D Clary, Pinckney St.". Pinckney Street in Boston (Beacon Hill area) was and still is a very exclusive part of Boston. The Boston Blue Book shows a Henry C. Lord, a railroad executive, living on Pinckney Street in 1877. In any case, the covers show edge wear, with the spine separating on volume I. The interiors show occasional foxing, mostly on the preliminary pages, occasional turned corner.
