The author was the youngest member of the First Victorian Whaling Expedition to the Southern and Siberian Polar Regions. A Hardback in Good minus condition, without dust wrapper. Publisher's original red boards with lettering to spine in gilt. Illustrated with plates in black and white by J. Dow and the author. Includes a map of the author's route (present at back of book). Sunning, rubbing and wear to the boards and spine. Considerable wear to spine and hinge joints which have been repaired with bookseller's glue. Dust toning and foxing to page block. Age related foxing and toning to pages throughout, some pages extensively browned, others much less so. Overall, this is an Extremely Scarce book in Good only condition.
