[Classic Literature] FIRST EDITION, Mixed Issue, bound from the serial parts. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.xvi; 624 [2]. With the dated vignette title page, but 'screwed' to p.132, line 20. Lacks half-title. With 40 steel engravings by Phiz, including frontispiece and vignette title page. Contemporary green half calf, with gilt titles to brown label, gilt decoration to raised bands on spine, and green cloth-covered boards, coated brown endpapers, all edges speckled red. Light spotting to text, some browning to plates (heavier in places), otherwise crisp and clean internally. Light general wear to binding. Very good. Charles Dickens' highly autobiographical novel, whose story is told almost entirely from the point of view of the first person narrator, David Copperfield himself; the first Dickens novel to do so.
