SPECIAL REPORT OF THE NEW YORK FOREST COMMISSION ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ADIRONDACK STATE PARK 1891 W/ MAP. I have had this small booklet and the map that goes with it for some time now, and had postponed offering it for sale because I could find no record of it online. I still can t but as I have stated, several times elsewhere, the time to down-size, if not disappear my extensive book collection, has very much arrived. This small soft cover booklet (6 x 9 inches, 42 pages plus attached map and tabular report on The Great Forest of Northern New York) was transmitted to the Legislature in January 1891. The map which measures about 31 x 32 inches provides a full overview of the status of the Adirondack Forests and shows the blue line inside which the Forest Commission recommends the establishment of the Adirondack State Park and its designation as Forever Wild. This is truly an historic document fundamental to the forestry history of the State of New York. Condition: This small vintage booklet is dry and fragile, and the cover is separated from the main body of the report but still present. The covers are also darkened and significantly bumped. The text block shows some soiling particularly on the outer margin of the title page which as exposed by the torn cover. The interior pages of the Special Report are generally clean and unmarked. There is a Compliments slip from the State Controller tipped in to the back of the loose front cover. The map is really very presentable and attractive although there are some emerging splits to the paper at the creases of the many folds.
