Printed in Venice in 1529 by Niccolò Zoppino, this is the first edition of L'amoroso Convivio by Dante Alighieri. In this prose work, written in Italian, Dante speaks on moral character, wisdom, and the value of using the common language for intellectual writing. He challenges the idea that nobility is inherited and instead praises those who live by reason and virtue. The edition helped bring Dante's ideas to a wider audience during the Renaissance. It includes a woodcut title-page portrait of Dante in a decorative frame. Very Good condition. The full vellum binding is solid, with some age-related staining. The text block is firm and complete. (16mo), single volume. Collation: [8], 124 leaves. Illustrations: Woodcut title-page portrait. Edition: First edition.
