Antique 1800s French Barrel Makers Croze Tool Solid Walnut Artisan Handcarved Folk Art Mid 1800s artisan handcarved folk art Barrel Makers Croze tool from France. A true labor of love indeed. Masterfully handcarved solid walnut, the heart was actually carved out of the wood rather than attached, the wood has such an unbelievably smooth finish. We have another listed in more primitive (well worn) condition. Have posted a photo of a possible repurpose idea to use for a door knob plate if not using for what the tool is intended for...it may make a beautiful display. Solid, heavy piece weighing 5.5 lbs. Used for making rebates in the tops & bottoms of barrels for the lids. The middle piece is adjustable & can be taken out for transport as shown. The back has a hand forged iron frame. Simple & so beautiful, yet a tool to be used. The handhewn wood grain is absolutely incredible! Purchased in the South of France. Measures; 14" height, 7.25 length, 14" depth, the front piece has a 1.25" depth, & the post is 1.75" depth. Lovely condition. Blade & wedges all there & in position just 1 tooth on the blade is broken. Truly historical piece of French history.
